Somerset Patriots News Release
Lancaster, Pennsylvania - The Somerset Patriots (5-6, 47-34) let a late lead slip away in a 5-4 loss to the Lancaster Barnstormers (3-8, 27-54) Tuesday evening at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
Somerset jumped on the board three batters into the night. After a one-out double down the right field line from Alfredo Rodriguez, Jimmy Paredes drove him home on an RBI single to center field.
The Barnstormers responded in the bottom of the second on a two-run K.C. Hobson home run (13). The Patriots tied it up later in the fourth on a Yovan Gonzalez two-out RBI single.
Somerset regained the lead the next inning. Paradise grounded into a run-scoring double play to give the Patriots a 3-2 advantage before a fielding error from reliever Alejandro Chacin led to the second run of the inning and a 4-2 lead.
That score held until Lancaster tied up the game in the top of the ninth inning. Andrew Aplin lined a two-run single off Patriots' reliever Jonathan Cheshire (BS) to tie the game in the ninth.
After Somerset failed to score in the top of the 10th, the Barnstormers won it in the home half. Following a Hobson single to lead off the inning, Somerset first baseman Edwin Espinal throw an errant throw to third as the cut-of man. The throw went into foul territory and allowed the baserunner, Devon Torrence, to score from third as the winning run.
Scott Shuman (2-1) received the win with a scoreless 10th inning. James Pugliese (3-1) took the loss after allowing one unearned run. Neither starting pitcher factored into the decision.
The Patriots and Barnstormers continue their three-game series Wednesday night. Southpaw Thomas Dorminy (5-4, 2.29 ERA) takes the mound for Somerset against Lancaster righty Jonathan Albaladejo (1-6, 6.23 ERA). First pitch at Clipper Magazine Stadium is set for 7:00 pm.
The 2019 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford continues on the road until Friday, July 26th when the Patriots return home to host the Long Island Ducks. The game includes a postgame fireworks show. For tickets, stop by the box office located at TD Bank Ballpark, call (908) 252-0700, or visit www.somersetpatriots.com.
