Iowa Barnstormers News Release
DES MOINES - The locally-owned Iowa Barnstormers Arena Football Club today announced the Saturday, June 21 game against the visiting Peoria Pirates will be a "Salute to Service," as the team will be honoring current and former members of the United States Armed Services throughout the evening.
The highlight of the evening will be at halftime, when 50 young men and women will be ushered onto Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Field to be sworn in as new United States Army recruits.
"The Barnstormers organization is proud to recognize those who wear the uniform and publicly salute them for their service," said General Manager John Pettit. "Whether overseas on the frontlines of the war on terror or right here at home helping Iowa's communities battle recent floodwaters, these selfless folks deserve our gratitude and recognition."
The Barnstormers organization has made arrangements with numerous local veterans' groups and active-duty posts to provide discounted tickets for Saturday's game. Any active-duty service member, reservist, guardsmen, or veteran should call the Barnstormers' front office at (515) 633-2255 for additional details.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Iowa time, and the official Barnstormers Pregame Tailgate Party will start at 4 p.m. in the North Lot of Veterans Memorial Auditorium. Barnstormers' fans can catch all the action live on Mediacom Connections Channel 22, live on the radio at ESPN AM 1700 The Champ, or broadcast online on the Barnstormers Video Network found at www.theiowabarnstormers.com.
