Seattle Storm News Release

This Week's Opponents

Phoenix: The Storm and Mercury will square off in the second of three meetings this season. Seattle won the first matchup 100-87 at KeyArena on May 23, scoring in triple digits for the first time in franchise history. Lauren Jackson led the way with 31 points while Janell Burse grabbed a career-high 19 rebounds. Burse had 16 boards by halftime, setting a new WNBA record for rebounds in a half (prev. 14). The Storm have won two in a row against the Mercury and four of the last five dating to the start of the 2006 season. Seattle leads 15-10 all-time.

Connecticut: Seattle will face Connecticut for the second time in as many weeks, looking to avoid a season sweep at the hands of the Sun for the second straight year. The Sun took the first meeting 76-63 at KeyArena in July 11, winning in Seattle for just the second time in franchise history. Connecticut's reserves came up big in the win, outscoring their Seattle counterparts 20-2. The Sun have won three straight against the Storm and lead 7-5 all-time.

New York: The Storm will look for their fourth straight victory against the Liberty this week, the last two coming by wide margins. The Storm have outscored the Liberty 175-107 in the last two meetings, winning by 37 points on 7/22/06 and by 31 points this season on July 1. Iziane Castro Marques has led the way in those two wins, scoring a career-high 26 points against New York last summer before pouring in 24 points in the first meeting this season. The July 1 win pulled the Storm even with the Liberty at 6-6 all-time.
