Storm Sweep Weekend, Defeat Cedar Rapids 3-2

Kearney, NE - The Tri-City Storm won a season best sixth game in a row on Saturday afternoon at the Viaero Center in a 3-2 defeat of Eastern Conference foe Cedar Rapids. After trailing 1-0 after the 1st period, Storm Captain Ronnie Attard and Colby Ambrosio combined for three goals in the 2nd period to give the Storm a 3-1 lead. Cedar Rapids scored a goal with under two minutes to play to bring the game back within one goal but could not complete the comeback and Tri-City skated away with a 3-2 win on home ice. Tri-City hosts defending the Clark Cup Champion Fargo Force next weekend at the Viaero Center in a two-game series on Friday and Saturday. Cedar Rapids jumped out to a one goal lead just over five minutes into the game on a goal from Ethan Wolthers. The RoughRiders outshot the Storm 5-3 in the 1st period and carried a 1-0 lead into the 2nd period. The lead by Cedar Rapids would be surrendered early in the 2nd period, as the Storm scored three unanswered goals.

Ronnie Attard put the Storm on the board for the first time in the game 63 seconds into the 2nd period. The goal from Attard was his 5th of the season and was assisted by Joe Molenaar. Colby Ambrosio scored in the final six minutes of the period to push the Storm lead to two goals. Ambrosio's goal was his 8th of the season and was assisted by Ruben Rafkin and Filip Forsmark. Just over a minute later, Ronnie Attard buried his 2nd goal of the night behind RoughRiders goaltender Blake Pietila to give Tri-City a 3-1 lead. Attard's 6th goal of the year was assisted by Michael Colella. The Storm outshot Cedar Rapids 19-5 in the 2nd period and took a two goal lead into the 3rd period.

Andrei Bakanov brought the RoughRiders back within one goal of the Storm's lead less than two minutes to go in the game, but Tri-City would hang on for its sixth consecutive win and would remain unbeaten against Eastern Conference teams this season. Jake Barczewski made 16 saves on 18 shots to record the win in goal for the Storm. With his 2nd period goal, Colby Ambrosio tied Jake Crespi for the team lead in goals with 8 on the season. Ambrosio was named the game's 2nd star for his efforts, while Ronnie Attard's two goal game gave him 1st Star honors.
