Dubuque Rolls Green Bay, 7-1 on Teddy Bear Toss Night
December 1, 2018 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release
Dubuque was dominant from start to finish as they beat up the Green Bay Gamblers 7-1 on Teddy Bear Toss Night. Riese Gaber tallied the teddy bear toss goal and then Dubuque poured in six more for their second win in a row. The Fighting Saints matched their highest output of the season with the seven goals. It was the third time in the last five games that Green Bay gave up seven or more.
-Riese Gaber and Logan Pietila have been on fire in the last few games. Gaber has four goals in the last two and Pietila has two goals and three assists. The two have been on a line for both games and have created chance after chance.
-Dallas Tulik made his Fighting Saints debut and was stellar. He tallied two assists and even received some power play time in the game. Tulik didn't miss a beat with his new team and looked at home on the line with Pietila and Gaber.
-Bram Scheerer scored his first USHL goal and grabbed his first two points of the season in Dubuque's victory. Scheerer had been pushing for his first points and looked like he might break the ice multiple times over the last few games.
-Derek Contessa and Cooper Haar also snapped long scoring droughts for the Fighting Saints. Contessa popped in his fifth goal of the season and Haar had an assist.
-Not to be lost in the scoring parade, Matthew Thiessen had one of his better games of the season. Thiessen secured his first win since mid-October and was a big reason why the Saints were able to blow out the Gamblers. Thiessen made 22 stops in the victory.
-Aidan Fulp has made an immediate impact since his return to the lineup two games ago. Fulp has four points in those two games, a goal and three assists. Fulp went his first seven games without a point and then was on the IR for over a month.
-Green Bay had a few stints in the game when they pushed back but Thiessen and the Dubuque defense were up to the task. The Gamblers were out of the game after the midway point of the second period with Dubuque up 4-0.
-The Fighting Saints showed great discipline in the game as well. The team has had a propensity to take penalties, but against the Gamblers they showed poise and restraint. Dubuque only took one minor penalty during the game and killed off the ensuing five on four.
-The Fighting Saints will take on the Muskegon Lumberjacks tomorrow at 3:05. Muskegon has been the best team in the league and have also won two in a row. In addition, Muskegon is fresh off a 7-1 victory, just like the Fighting Saints.
