Tri-City Storm News Release

Muskegon, Mi. - The Tri-City Storm scored two goals in the last two minutes, falling just short of overcoming a three-goal third period deficit, 4-3, against the Muskegon Lumberjacks Saturday from the L.C. Walker Arena.

Wade Allison scored with 1:37 left on the power play, then Carson Meyer scored with 1:08 left on the man up to cut the lead to one.

Amidst the rally, the Storm and 'Jacks entangled in a physical third period; Muskegon took 30 penalty minutes in the third, while the Storm racked up six infractions and 12 penalty minutes.

After Muskegon scored the first two goals in the first, Joe Cipollone scored with 8:14 left in the second to bring Tri-City within one, assisted by Nico Sturm and Justin Dixson. Sturm wristed a shot saved by Devin Cooley, then Cipollone had the puck bounce off his skate and in.

In 11 games with the Storm, Cipollone has three goals and four points. Sturm had a pair of assists and is tied for third on the Storm with 15 points.

After allowing the goal, Cooley chilled the Storm offense until late in the third, making 31 saves in the win. Matt Greenfield denied 22 saves and was pulled halfway through the third and took the loss.

After a pair of Muskegon goals in the third, Greenfield was pulled in place of Dayton Rasmussen with the Storm down, 4-1.

Rasmussen was a perfect 5-for-5 in relief in his first game since being acquired in a trade from the Waterloo Black Hawks on Nov. 13. On his first save, he denied Robbie DeMontis on a breakaway, following the shot to the left post to deny.

Shortly after, the craziness began; with about six minutes left in the third, pushing and shoving ensued after the whistle between Carson Meyer, Jake Wahlin, and a pair of Muskegon players. The fracas resulted in eight penalty minutes - two double minors - against the Jacks' Mitch Eliot and Trevor Hamilton, plus six combined penalty minutes against Meyer and Wahlin.

Tri-City failed to score on the power play, but scored on its next two man-up chances later when Tri-City went on its first of two late power plays with three minutes left.

To start the comeback, Wade Allison stashed the puck on a pass from Nico Sturm under Cooley. Next, 29 seconds later, Meyer scored his team-leading tenth of the season, with assists to Goransson and John Marino.

Tri-City pulled the goalie Rasmussen in the final 1:08 but could not score to tie.

The Storm is on the road at 7:05 p.m. next Saturday against Lincoln at The Ice Box, with 6:45 Storm Pregame on The Breeze 94.5. The next home contest is Sunday, Dec. 6, against the Lincoln Stars at 5:05 p.m.
