Des Moines Buccaneers News Release

The Des Moines Buccaneers went into the den of the Lincoln Stars, a team that had only lost twice in their own building all season, and defeated the Stars for their second road victory in Lincoln in three tries.

In the first period the Lincoln Stars' goalie Patrik Virtanen was peppered early and often and finally showed he was human when Will Harrison fed Chris Allemon at the left point and Allemon's blast was tipped in by Georgy Gorodetsky to give Des Moines the 1-0 lead going into the locker room. Des Moines outshot the home Stars 11-8 in the first period.

Des Moines with fine tic-tac-toe passing got the puck moving around Virtanen's left thanks to David Keefer and Kenny Hausinger and Hausinger hit Howell creeping into the slot who blasted a one-timer through Virtanen's five-hole at 4:04 of the 2nd period to double Des Moines' lead. Three straight penalties in the period called on Lincoln didn't result in any MidAmerican Energy Power Play tallies for Des Moines but long sustained pressure and plenty of shots as the Buccaneers outshot Lincoln by a 16-11 margin in the middle frame.

The third period is where Lincoln came alive, throwing 20 shots on Buccaneers goaltender Nick MacNab and they were able to score twice on power play goals, first at 9:38 of the period when Patrick Polino backhand roofed a puck in the crease into the net and then at 13:27 on a blast from Christian Evers at the right point. Sandwiched in between those two goals though was Nikita Pavlychev scoring for Des Moines from in close after having some early chances on the same shift and the goal was the game-winning goal at 11:21.

Lincoln's Polino was named the third star of the game, Des Moines' Will Harrison picked up an assist on Gorodetsky and Pavlychev's goals as well as the second star and Nick MacNab was awarded the first star of the game on the back of his 37 saves.

The Buccaneers are next in action in Youngstown, Ohio to take on the Youngstown Phantoms on Friday, December 5th, and Saturday, December 6th.
