Chicago Steel News Release
DUBUQUE, IOWA - Chicago Steel goaltender Daniel Vladar made 36 saves in a 3-0 shutout Saturday against the Dubuque Fighting Saints (11-8-0-0, 22 points) at Mystique Community Ice Center. Adam Parsells, Jake Jaremko and Christiano Versich scored goals for Chicago in their fourth consecutive victory. The Steel improved to 9-9-2-1 (21 points) on the season, including a perfect 3-0 against Dubuque.
Vladar made his second consecutive start since returning from an upper-body injury. The Czech goaltender set aside all 15 shots he faced in a first period dominated by the Saints. The Steel successfully killed all three penalties committed in the opening frame, while mustering six shots on goal of their own.
The Steel came out flying in the second period. Defenseman Adam Parsells picked up his fourth goal of the season, and third since being acquired by the Steel in an October 13 trade with Green Bay. The 6-foot-6 defenseman broke into the offensive zone along the right side and sent a long wrist shot from the point over the glove of Dubuque netminder Hunter Miska, giving Chicago a 1-0 lead 1:53 into the 2nd period. Later in the frame, Steel center Jake Jaremko tallied his USHL-leading 8th power play goal of the season, capitalizing on a 5-on-3 advantage. Brandon Duhaime slid a backhanded pass through the legs of Dubuque defenseman Spenser Young, and Jaremko buried a one-timer past Miska, giving the Steel a 2-0 lead at 18:01 of the 2nd period.
Just 19 seconds into the 3rd period, Chicago's Tanner Laczynski tallied his second assist of the game, sending a perfect pass to the slot, setting up linemate Christiano Versich for a quick wrister past Miska's blocker, obtaining his first career goal. It would be Chicago's only shot on goal registered in the 3rd period, securing a 3-0 road victory.
Laczynski has now scored 10 points (4+6) in his last five games and leads the league with 17 assists. Vladar's shutout was his second of the season. Dubuque outshot Chicago 36-20 in the game.
Chicago is on the road next weekend, visiting the Lincoln Stars on Friday, December 4, followed by the Sioux Falls Stampede on Saturday, December 5. The Steel return to Fox Valley Ice Arena on Thursday, December 10 as they take on the Youngstown Phantoms at 7 p.m. CST for Star Wars Night - Defeat the Phantom Menace.
