Storm Host Stampede for First Time this Season

Kearney, NE. - The Tri-City Storm hosts the Sioux Falls Stampede for the first time this season tonight at the Viaero Center. Last night, Tri-City defeated the Lincoln Stars by a final score of 4-1 on home ice to improve to 17-10-0-1 on the 2020-2021 regular season. The Storm split a road series against the Stampede on February 5th & February 6th in the only previous head-to-head matchups this season between the two teams. Puck drop for tonight's Storm home game against the Stampede is scheduled for 7:05pm.

Tri-City (17-10-0-1) plays the middle game of a three-game weekend at home tonight against the Sioux Falls Stampede. Ben Schoen, Caden Villegas, Kyler Kovich, and Cole O'Hara all scored for the Storm in last night's 4-1 win over the Lincoln Stars. The Storm improved to 12-2-0-0 when leading after the 1st period, 15-0-0-0 when leading after the 2nd period, and 11-8-0-1 when outshooting its opponents in games this season. Tri-City holds an 8-7-1-1 record against the Stampede in games played between the two teams over the past five seasons. The Storm is 6-2-0-0 on home ice against Sioux Falls in head-to-head matchups over the past five years. The Storm and the Stampede will play eight games against each other in this year's season series. Last year, Sioux Falls won two of three matchups in the season series. Tonight's game at the Viaero Center will be the first time Tri-City has hosted the Stampede for a home game in 490 days. The Storm dropped a 2-1 decision to the Stampede on October 19th, 2019, the last time the team played a home game against Sioux Falls. The Storm remains the 2nd place team in the USHL's Western Conference standings following last night's victory over Lincoln.

Sioux Falls (13-15-3-0) began play this week with a 6-2 home loss to the Lincoln Stars on Monday. Last night, Sioux Falls dropped another game by a final score of 6-2. The Stampede lost a road game to the Des Moines Buccaneers before making the trip to Kearney for tonight's road game against the Storm. After defeating the Storm by a final score of 5-3 on February 6th, Sioux Falls has now dropped three of its last four games. The current three-game losing skid for Sioux Falls ties for the longest losing streak the team has suffered this season. The Stampede also lost three consecutive games on January 15th (4-3 vs. SC), January 16th (6-2 @ SC) and January 22nd (2-1 @ OMA). Sioux Falls has dropped to 6th place in the Western Conference standings entering tonight's game. Following tonight's road game at the Viaero Center, the Stampede return to action tomorrow in another road game against the Storm.
