Lake Elsinore Storm News Release
After last night's meager offensive effort, the Lake Elsinore Storm came out firing in the 8- win against the San Jose Giants.
In the second inning, the Storm would combine for more hits (4) than they hit in all 9 innings of last night's game (3). Justin Farmer would start the inning with a double, he would be followed with a Carlos Luis single that would bring Farmer home for the game's first run. Sandwiched between two strikeouts, Kervin Pichardo would hit a single of his own to put a man on first and second. Max Ferguson would then hit a double to deep left field, nearly leaving the yard for his second Diamond dinger. This would give the Storm a 3-0 lead, one they would not lose for the rest of the game.
The Storm would put up yet another 3-run inning in the 5th as a Cole Cummings single and a helpful fielding error from the Giants would bring Nerwillian Cedeño across the plate to expand the lead to 4 runs. After two consecutive strikeouts, two consecutive hits Carlos Luis and Jared Alvarez-Lopez would make it a 7-1 game through 5 innings.
While the offense proved its worth, Padres pitchers, Bodi Rascon and Levi Thomas, would combine for 7.1 innings pitched, 2 earned runs, 4 strikeouts and this incredible play by Thomas.
A Cole Cummings triple and a subsequent single by Carlos Luis would push the score to 8-1 before the Giants would add a run in the top of the 8th to cement the score at 8-2.
This win would keep the Lake Elsinore Storm on top of the Cal League South Division standings and in line to secure the first-half playoff spot. This year, the four playoff teams will be determined by the division leaders from the first and second half of the season. The Storm will play another game against the San Jose Giants tomorrow night for College Night & Mega Thirsty Thursday at The Diamond.
