San Jose Giants News Release

San Jose's six-game winning streak against South Division-leading Lake Elsinore came to an end on Wednesday night with an 8-2 loss to the Storm at The Diamond. Lake Elsinore jumped out early with a three-run bottom of the second and never looked back on their way to evening the series at a game apiece. The setback also snapped the Giants' (31-22) overall three-game win streak.

San Jose had opportunities to take an early lead on Wednesday but left three runners in scoring position over the first two innings. Aeverson Arteaga doubled with one out in the top of the first, but was stranded when the next two batters were retired. An inning later, Garrett Frechette walked with two outs before Alexander Suarez reached on an error to put runners on second and third, however Max Wright then grounded out to end the threat.

The Storm then set eight batters to the plate in a three-run bottom of the second against Giants starter Nick Sinacola to take a 3-0 lead. Justin Farmer led off with a double off the right field wall and scored the game's first run when the next batter, Carlos Luis, singled to center. A one-out single from Kervin Pichardo then put runners on first and second before leadoff hitter Max Ferguson blasted a two-RBI double to the fence in deep left for a 3-0 Lake Elsinore advantage.

The Giants answered with a run in the top of the third as Grant McCray led off with a single and scored on Riley Mahan's two-out double to deep left, however the Storm got the run right back in the bottom of the inning. Albert Fabian began the frame with a single, advanced to second on a passed ball and scored on Luis' one-out single to make it 4-1.

In the top of the fifth, Wright led off with a double to deep right center, but was stranded when the next three San Jose hitters were set down. Lake Elsinore then produced their second three-run inning of the night to break the game open. With reliever Sam Delaplane on the mound, a walk to Nerwilian Cedeno started the inning. Then with Cedeno running on the pitch, Cole Cummings singled through the open hole on the right side. Right fielder Alexander Suarez then mishandled the ball for an error allowing Cedeno to score the first run of the inning. After Delaplane struck out the next two hitters, Luis came through with his third RBI single of the evening. Jared Alvarez-Lopez then laced a run-scoring double down the left field line for a 7-1 Storm cushion.

Lake Elsinore scored their eighth and final run of the contest in the bottom of the seventh when Cummings led off with a triple to deep center and scored on Fabian's single.

The Giants brought the final margin to 8-2 with a single tally in the top of the eighth. With one out, Vaun Brown doubled to the fence in deep left center and scored on Najee Gaskins' two-out single.

Storm reliever Levi Thomas was credited with the win after tossing 3 1/3 innings out of the bullpen with only one run allowed.
