Kearney, Ne. - Storm defenseman Mattias Goransson has been named CCM "Defenseman of the Week" for week five of the regular season, the USHL announced Monday.

Goransson, 20, led USHL defensemen with two goals and four points this weekend, garnering a +4 rating. In two games, the second-year USHL blueliner was on the ice for six of seven Storm goals.

With seven points, Goransson is tied for second in USHL defensemen points with partner John Marino. The pairing is the highest-scoring defensive duo in the league. Marino and Goransson are tied for second on the Storm in points.

The UMass-Lowell commit started his weekend with a pair of goals against Omaha Friday, including the game-winning tally in three-on-three overtime, marking his first multi-goal game in the USHL.

Saturday, Goransson took on the role of distributor, dishing two assists in the Storm's game against Sioux City.

The back-to-back multi-point performances were a USHL career first.

The native of Grums, Sweden has been on the ice for 14 of the Storm's 24 goals, better than 58 percent.

Goransson is the leading returning defenseman scorer on the Storm; he garnered seven goals and 28 points last season, third-best among blueliners.
