Storm Complete Phase I of 2020 USHL Draft

Kearney, NE. - The Tri-City Storm has completed Phase I of the 2020 USHL Draft by making eight selections in then ten round draft. The Storm selected four forwards, three defenseman, and one goaltender. The Phase I Draft, formerly known as the "Futures Draft", is open to 2004 birth year players only. Phase II of the USHL Draft is open to players of all ages eligible to play junior hockey and who are not currently protected by another USHL team. Earlier this spring, Tri-City signed Gavin Brindley and Vinny Borgesi to tender agreements for the 2020-2021 season. The USHL tender process allows each team to tender up to two players prior to the USHL Phase I Draft in place of its 1st Round and 2nd Round draft picks.

Tri-City had an extra 2nd Round pick from a prior transaction and used it to select its first player of the draft. With the 18th overall pick in the 2nd round, the Storm selected centerman Jonah Aegerter from Janesville, WI. Aegerter appeared in eighty-three games for the Oakland Jr. Grizzlies U15 program during the 2019-2020 season. He netted twenty-six goals and recorded sixty-three assists for a total of eighty-nine points.

The first defenseman to be selected by the Storm was Shaun McEwen of South Hadley, MA. Tri-City used the 40th pick in the 3rd Round to draft McEwen. He skated in seventy-five games for the Selects Hockey Academy 15U program at the South Kent School in South Kent, Connecticut. McEwen scored twenty-six goals and notched fifty-four assists for eighty total points in the 2019-2020 season.

The Storm's next pick was in the 5th Round and with the 70th overall selection in the Phase I Draft the Storm drafted defenseman Seth Constance of Northville, MI. Constance recorded two assists in fourteen games during the 2019-2020 season for the Compuware U15 program in Detroit, MI. Constance previously skated for the Oakland Jr. Grizzlies Bantam team during the 2018-2019 season.

Defenseman Isaiah George of Oakville, ON was Tri-City's next selection. The Storm drafted George 76th overall in the 6th Round of the Phase I Draft. George appeared in twenty-nine games during the 2019-2020 season with the Toronto Marlboros Minor Midget AAA program in Toronto, ON. He recorded five goals and notched six assists for eleven total points during the season. He also skated in one game for the Oakville Blades of the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL).

After selecting three consecutive defenseman, the Storm drafted its second forward of the day with the 85th pick in the 6th Round of the Phase I Draft. Tri-City drafted forward August Falloon, a native of St. Cloud, MN. Falloon skated in twenty-five games this season for St. Cloud High School and scored twenty-four goals. He also provided the Bulldog offense with nineteen assists for a total of forty-three points in the 2019-2020 season.

Tri-City's only goaltender selection of the 2020 USHL Phase I Draft was made in the next round. With the 100th overall pick in the 7th Round, the Storm drafted Pete Sterling of Washington, DC. Sterling appeared in nineteen games during the 2019-2020 and posted a Goals Against Average (GAA) of 2.10. He also recorded a save percentage of .924%. Previously, Sterling played for the Washington Little Caps Bantam Major program.

The Storm's 115th pick in the 9th Round was forward Colin Kessler of Anchorage, AK. Kessler skated for the Culver Military Academy of Culver, IN during the 2019-2020 season. He scored twenty-three goals and notched eighteen assists for forty-one total points. Kessler previously skated for the Anchorage North Stars AAA program in Anchorage, AK.

The Storm's final pick in the 2020 USHL Phase I Draft was Will Elger of Westerville, Ohio. Elger was drafted 130th overall in the 9th Round. He skated in eighty-three games during the 2019-2020 season for the Ohio Blue Jackets U15 program in Dublin, OH. Elger scored seventeen goals and recorded forty-eight assists for sixty-five total points. Elger previously skated for the Ohio Blue Jackets Bantam Minor and Bantam Major teams.

The second and final Phase of the 2020 USHL Draft is scheduled to begin at 1:00pm CT tomorrow. Teams will fill their roster to a total of 45 players; this includes players that were previously on a team's Affiliate List. The total number of players that a team will draft will vary depending on the number of Affiliate players a team may have. All veteran roster players from the 2019-2020 season are automatically protected by their current team, separate from the list of 45 players.
