The Week in Review
The Storm had a busy week this week playing a home and home against the Owen Sound Attack on Wednesday and Friday then traveling to Plymouth on Saturday and finally hosting the Rangers at the Sleeman Centre for the traditional Family Day game on Monday.
The Storm started off the week with a win against the Attack in Owen Sound. Garret Sparks picked up his league leading 7th shutout as the Storm defeated the Attack 2-0. Friday
Friday night in Guelph, penalty troubles got the best of the Storm as the Attack scored twice with the man advantage to defeat the Storm 4-2.
On Saturday in Plymouth the Storm jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first period, but the Whalers scored five unanswered goals in the second and added two more in the third to defeat the Storm 7-4.
In the final game of the week, the Storm faced off against Kitchener in an action packed game that kept the sold out crowd of 5,035 at the Sleeman Center on their feet. Defeating the Rangers 5-3, the Storm gained two points on their highway 7 rivals and currently sit five back of fourth spot with 69 points.
Dickinson N amed OHL Academic Player of the Month for January
The Ontario Hockey League today announced the OHL Academic Players of the Month for January, 2013, which includes Jeremiah Addison of the Saginaw Spirit, Jason Dickinson of the Guelph Storm, Mark Raycroft of the Brampton Battalion, and Darcy Greenaway of the Kingston Frontenacs.
Midwest Division: The OHL Academic Player of the Month for January in the Midwest Division is Jason Dickinson of the Guelph Storm. Dickinson, a 17-year-old native of Georgetown, ON, demonstrates excellence both on and off the ice. He is a self-motivated and disciplined learner and is a quiet leader in his classes. His teachers have described him as a "great student" who is focused, responsible and respectful. Dickinson is currently maintaining an 82% average in his Grade 12 University preparation courses and is a top prospect for the 2013 NHL Draft.
Storm Forecast
The Storm continue their drive for a higher place in the Western Conference standings playing three games in three days this coming weekend. Friday, February 22nd the Storm host the Niagara Ice Dogs at the Sleeman Centre at 7;30pm before heading to Barrie on Saturday to take on the Central Division leading Colts at 7;30pm. Sunday, they return home to host the Sudbury Wolves at 2:00pm.
