Niagara IceDogs News Release

The Niagara IceDogs fell to the visiting Mississauga Steelheads by a score of 8-2 at the Gatorade Garden City Complex on Thursday night.

The first period saw the teams exchange chances as the game remained scoreless for much of the frame. That would change when Mississauga would open the scoring with just 2:36 remaining in the first to send the IceDogs into the intermission down 1-0. Shots after one period would be 11-8 Mississauga.

The IceDogs would get off to a tough start to the second, as Mississauga would add a pair of goals in the first 4:28 to stretch their lead to 3-0. Mississauga would then make the lead 4-0 just past the midway point of the frame before Steven Shipley would get the IceDogs on the board with a powerplay goal at the 13:09 mark to make it a 4-1. The IceDogs would carry the play for the rest of the second period as they looked to close the gap further, but would be unable to pick up another goal as they headed into the second intermission down 4-1. Shots after 40 minutes favoured the IceDogs 20-19.

The IceDogs would be unable to carry the momentum from the end of the second period into the third unfortunately, as Mississauga would regain the momentum with a goal only 1:01 in to make it a 5-1 game. Things would not stop there as Mississauga would add three more goals to take an 8-1 lead at the 12:36 mark of the third. Jordan Maletta would pick up his second as an IceDog to make it an 8-2 game minutes later. That would be it for scoring as Niagara would fall by an 8-2 final. Finals shots were 31-28 Niagara.

The IceDogs will now hit the road to head to Guelph tomorrow night before returning home on Saturday night to play host to the visiting Kingston Frontenacs. Tickets for Saturday and all other IceDogs home games are still available and can be purchased at all IceDogs ticketing locations.
