
Otters Lose to Spitfires, 8-5

Windsor, Ont. - A five-goal period by the Windsor Spitfires helped the hosts earn an 8-5 victory over the Erie Otters Thursday night.
The Otters broke the ice six minutes and 24 seconds into the game on J.P. Labardo's 21st goal of the season. Labardo fired a shot from the top of the right circle through the blocker of Jordan DeKort to put the Otters on the board.
Alex Aleardi tied the game for the Spitfires at 13:46 with his 22nd goal of the season. The Otters regained the lead at 16:25 thanks to Nick Betz's fourth goal of the year. The puck bounced off the end glass off the back of DeKort to make it 2-1, Otters.
The Spitfires tied the game late in the first period on a power play goal by Alex Khokhlachev to even the score at two.
Remy Giftopoulos gave the Spitfires their first lead of the game at the 3:32 mark of the second period with a power play goal.
The Otters then scored the next two goals to take a 4-3 lead into the third period. Labardo scored his second goal of the game at 6:55 after he banged in a great pass from Connor McDavid through the glove of DeKort to tie the game at three.
Dane Fox put the Otters back on top with his 13th goal of the season, blasting a shot from the left circle past DeKort at 11:39.
In the third period, Ben Johnson began and ended a run of four straight goals by the Windsor Spitfires. In between the tallies were a go-ahead goal by Graeme Brown and Aleardi's second goal of the night.
Stephen Harper ended the run at 15:49 as he lifted a backhand shot over the right shoulder of DeKort for his 16th goal of the season.
The Otters would get a chance to draw closer on the power play late in the game, but Kerby Rychel sealed the win for Windsor with an empty net goal.
Labardo led the Otters with two goals and an assist for his fifth three-plus point game of the season. Connor Crisp (2a) and Harper (1g, 1a) each had two points for the Otters.
