Erie Otters News Release
Erie, Pennsylvania - Guelph scored four unanswered goals to top the Otters 6-3 Wednesday night in Erie.
The Otters started out with great chances, but goaltender Justin Nichols came up big for Guelph, keeping the game scoreless early. Guelph defenseman Zac Leslie was called for delay of game at 8:51 before center Justin Dickinson joined him in the box for high sticking 21 seconds later for the Otters five-on-three.
Darren Raddysh rang a shot off the post that the crowd thought went in, but was immediately waved off. Guelph killed both penalties before Pius Suter carried the puck into the Otters zone and scored on Devin Williams, giving the Storm the 1-0 lead. Erie had another good chance from Betz, but Nichols once again made the save.
The first half of the second continued the chances, but the second half, the Otters capitalized. With Dickinson in the box - this time for slashing - Alex DeBrincat found the back of the net to tie the game at one. The Otters went back onto the power play, this time for a tripping call on Garrett McFadden, and Dylan Strome started it off by nearly putting the puck over Nichols's pad. Not long after, Strome let a rocket fly from the slot and the puck flew behind Nichols for the 2-1 lead.
Kurtis MacDermid and Givani Smith were sent to the box on matching roughing minors and, with a four-on-four, Noah Carroll bobbled the puck over Williams's glove to tie the score at two. Sixteen seconds later, Tyler Bertuzzi put the Storm back on top, 3-2. It took another minute for Suter to score his second of the game, sending Williams to the bench in favor of Daniel Dekoning to close the period with Guelph leading 4-2.
The third period started off immediately with Dickinson finding the back of the net 24 seconds in. After McDavid left the box from a four-on-four, he shot into the Guelph zone on a breakaway, scoring the Otters's third goal from Kyle Maksimovich and Raddysh. In a final effort, Erie pulled Dekoning for an extra attacker, but Bertuzzi skated in and shot the puck into the empty net for the 6-3 final.
McDavid's point streak extends to 16 games in the win, with a point in all games played but one. Strome and McDavid both notched two points in the win,
The Otters welcome the Owen Sound Attack for the weekend, playing at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday night.
