Wolves Win at Home

February 11, 2015 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Sudbury Wolves News Release

The North Bay Battalion visited the Sudbury Arena Wednesday night to take on the hometown Wolves. The game started out slow but the Wolves exploded in the third period to take their second victory in their last three games.

It was a light first period with neither teams hitting the back of the net. Midway through the first, the rivalry boiled over with both teams taking minor penalties for roughing and unsportsmanlike conduct. The Wolves got a chance late in the frame when they were awarded a power play but could not capitalize. Shots on goal on after the first were 13-6 in favour of the Battalion.

The strong defensive play carried into the second period. It was NICK PAUL who broke the deadlock giving the Battalion the 1-0 lead early in the second frame. Shots on goal after the second were 27 to 16 in favour of the visitors.

It was an exciting third period as the boys came out flying, holding nothing back. It was Wolves' leading scorer MATT SCHMALZ tying the game up at 1-1 on the power play just over three minutes into the final frame. JACOB HARRIS went in alone to beat Battalion goaltender JAKE SMITH to take the 2-1 lead. KYLE CAPOBIANCO extended the lead for the Wolves two minutes later to make it 3-1. The Battalion weren't quite done yet as they responded with a goal from KYLE WOOD but it was not enough as the Wolves took this one 3-2. Final shots on goal were 43-25 for the Battalion.

The Sudbury Wolves are back at home on Friday night to face off against Max Domi and the London Knights. This will be the Knights only appearance at the Sudbury Arena this season. Game time is 7:30 and tickets are on sale now at the Sudbury Arena Box Office, online at www.greatersudbury.ca or by calling 705-671-3000.
