Storm & Ice Dogs for Attack

October 27, 2016 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Owen Sound Attack News Release

The Owen Sound Attack will look to make it two in a row against the Storm when they head to Guelph on Friday, Oct. 28. After taking down their Highway 6 rivals by a score of 5-2 at home on Wednesday night, the Attack are set for a pair of weekend games that starts at the Sleeman Centre Friday evening.

Owen Sound and Guelph will be meeting for the 3rd time this season, with both teams having been victorious over the other once previously.

Guelph captured the series opener by a score of 4-2 at the Bayshore on Oct. 1 before Owen Sound exacted revenge on Wednesday night, in a game that saw Petrus Palmu score his 11th goal of the year while adding an assist to give him 20 points in 13 games.

Palmu now sits at 5th in the OHL's points race and is also tied for 2nd in the goal scoring race with Flint's Ryan Moore and Sarnia's Nikita Korostelev.

The diminutive Finn was backed up by a solid goaltending performance by Michael McNiven, whose 30 saves helped him earn his 42nd career OHL victory, which moves him into 6th place in Attack franchise history.

McNiven has been stellar in eight starts this year, posting a record of 6-2-0 while maintaining a 2.21 goals against average and a .921 save percentage, good for 3rd and 2nd in the league, respectively.

Wednesday's win also acted as a four-point swing in the Midwest Division standings, as the Attack pulled two points clear of the Storm for 4th place in the division. Owen Sound now boasts a 7-6-0 record on the year, good for 14 points, while Guelph has fallen to 5-7-1-1 on the season.

Friday night's battle in Guelph will begin at 7:30pm and fans can catch it live on Rogers Local 53 or by listening to Fred Wallace's call on Kia of Owen Sound/Terry's Trailer Service Bear Radio on 560 CFOS.

Following the game against the Storm, Owen Sound will return home to take on the Eastern Conference's bottom dwelling Niagara IceDogs in a 7:30pm start on Saturday night. A game brought to you by Bayshore Broadcasting.

Niagara enters their Thursday night tilt with the Saginaw Spirit with a record of 3-7-1-0, which gives them seven points on the year.

The IceDogs are led by Chicago Blackhawks prospect Graham Knott, who has three goals and nine assists for 12 points in eight games on the year.

Saturday's meeting will mark Niagara's lone trip to the Bayshore in 2016-17, a rink where the Attack have enjoyed great success against the 'Dogs in recent history. Going a perfect two-and-oh against Niagara in the season series last season, Owen Sound also has a 3-1-0 record against the IceDogs at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre over the last five seasons.

Tickets for Saturday night's game, and all of Owen Sound's 2016-17 home games, can be purchased at the MacVicar & McComb ReMax Box Office, online at www.attackhockey.com, or by calling 519-371-742.

The Weekend Preview is brought to you by Joe Tomato's, located next to the Galaxy Cinemas on the Sunset Strip. Attack fans can enjoy 50% off wings and appetizers at Joe Tomato's following every Attack home game just by bringing in their ticket stub.
