Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Fresno, CA - Rancho's offensive struggles continued on Friday night, as the Fresno Grizzlies won their third straight over the Quakes with a 2-1 win at Chukchansi Park in Fresno.

Gavin Stone gave the Quakes five scoreless innings to set himself up for his first win of the year, but some late mistakes led to Rancho's undoing.

The Quakes built their 1-0 lead in the third, as Ismael Alcantara reached first on a wild pitch after striking out. After moving to third on a single by Edwin Mateo, Alcantara scored on what was ruled as a passed ball by catcher Bryant Quijada.

Stone got some help behind him to hold Fresno scoreless over five innings, as two base-runners were thrown out at the plate and another was throw out at third.

The Grizzlies broke through against Aldry Acosta (1-2) in the seventh, taking the lead for good with two runs. Back-to-back hits to open the seventh tied the game, as Grant Lavigne singled home Ezequiel Tovar, tying it at 1-1. Lavigne later scored on a wild pitch, giving the Grizzlies a 2-1 advantage.

The Quakes had a chance to tie, as the first two hitters reached to open the eighth against eventual winner Blair Calvo (1-1), but a base-running mistake and an untimely strikeout prevented them from getting even.

Rancho went 1-2-3 in the ninth, as Stephen Jones earned his fifth save of the year.

On Saturday, the Quakes (25-26) will roll with Robbie Peto (0-2), as he'll take on Anderson Amarista (0-1) at 6:50pm.

On Tuesday, July 6th, the Quakes return to LoanMart Field for another Temblores Tuesday. Tickets are available at rcquakes.com.
