Stokes hurls Zephyrs past Oklahoma

New Orleans starter Brian Stokes pitched into the ninth inning and earned the win as the Zephyrs defeated the Oklahoma Redhawks 6-4 on Monday night. The Z's offense scored three first inning runs and added three ninth inning runs to win the series three games to two. Stokes was one out away from the Z's first nine inning complete game in over a year when he allowed a pair of hits and a two run double off the bat of Jason Ellison. Carlos Muniz entered the game and delivered two pitches while finishing off the game and earning his 9th save of the season. The Z's offense was led by Argenis Reyes four hit, two RBI performance. Stokes went 8.2 innings, allowed 4 runs on 10 hits and improved to 7-5 for the season. The Z's picked up a game in the standings and are two games back of first place Oklahoma.

Game Notes: The Z's bullpen has been solid not allowing a run in its last six innings of work. New Orleans added veteran catcher Raul Casanova on Monday from the Mets. Luis Alen was assigned to the Mets rookie ball club in Brooklyn. The Zephyrs played its 72nd game on Monday, the halfway point of the season. Last season the division champs were 38-34 at midway marker.

Coming Up: The Zephyrs continue the nine game road trip on Tuesday in Des Moines, Iowa. New Orleans will begin a four game series at Principal Park. The Z's will send RH Nelson Figueroa to start against RH Justin Berg at 7:00. The Zephyrs and Cubs split a four game set in New Orleans in April. Radio: AM 690 WIST.
