Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - The Colorado Rockies announced today that infielder Troy Tulowitzki will begin a rehabilitation assignment with the Colorado Springs Sky Sox on Tuesday, June 17. Tulowitzki, 23, is scheduled to play for the Sky Sox against the Salt Lake Bees (Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim) in the team's 7:05 PM start at Security Service Field. Beginning tomorrow and continuing for Tulowitzki's entire rehab assignment, the Sky Sox will be opening the gates at 4:30 PM so that fans can watch the Sky Sox take batting practice.
The Santa Clara, CA native will be making his first ever appearance as a member of the Sky Sox. The talented young infielder skipped the Triple-A Sky Sox all together in 2007 when he won the starting shortstop job with the Rockies. He went on hit .291 (177-for-609) with 24 homers and 99 RBIs as he finished second in the National Rookie of the Year Award and helped the Rockies reach their first ever World Series.
Tulowitzki played most of the 2006 season in Double-A Tulsa and hit .291 (123-for-423) with 13 homers and 61 RBI before getting a late-season call up to the Rockies where he hit .240 (23-for-96) with a homer and six RBI in 25 games. In 2005, his first professional season, he hit .266 (25-for-94) with four home runs and 14 RBI in 22 games for the Single-A Modesto Nuts. The Rockies originally drafted Tulowitzki out of Long Beach State with their first selection of the 2005 draft.
Tulowitzki was placed on the disabled list on May 30 with a left quadriceps tendon tear and began his rehab assignment last week with Modesto. In five games with the Nuts, Tulowitzki hit .333 (4-for-12) with three doubles, one RBI and five walks.
