LOS ANGELES, CA, Feb. 16, 2010 - Reigning D-League Player of the Year Courtney Sims poured in 30 points and grabbed 12 rebounds while Curtis Stinson finished with 16 points and 19 assists as the Iowa Energy defeated the Los Angeles D-Fenders 112-95 Tuesday night.
Los Angeles opened the game with an 11-3 run as center Michael Fey scored eight quick points for the home team. Iowa responded with an 8-0 run of the own as Sims scored four quick points to bring Iowa within one point. The two teams traded leads before the Energy closed the quarter with a 10-2 spurt to take a 25-20 lead after one quarter.
The second quarter saw much of the same as the two teams battled back and forth. Again, Iowa would use a big run late in the quarter to pull ahead. With the score 45-39 in Los Angeles' favor, Iowa scored 15 of the final 17 points in the half to take a nine point lead into the break.
With the game in the balance, Iowa's defense came to life. The Energy held the D-Fenders scoreless for the first 3:00 of the first quarter to stretch their lead to 14 points. Iowa would coast to the 17 points win as they improved to a league best 27-6 on the year. The loss drops Los Angeles to 9-18 on the year.
In addition to Sims and Stinson, Iowa was led by Cartier Martin's 20 points. Reserve forward Marvin Phillips added 10 rebounds for the Energy, who had 34 assists on 47 field goal makes for the night.
Los Angeles was led by Fey's 22 points while James Wright added 18 on the night.
