New Mexico Thunderbirds News Release

ALBUQUERQUE, NM, Feb. 16, 2010 - The Albuquerque Thunderbirds announced today that Aleksander "Sasha" Cuic has been added to the roster. The team waived Kevin Pittsnogle for personal reasons, which opened up a roster spot for Cuic.

Cuic, a 6-10 forward originally from Croatia, played three years at Oregon State University before returning to Europe to play professionally. In his final season at Oregon State, Cuic played in 29 games, averaging 11.6 points and 2.8 rebounds. In 2007, Cuic started for DTL EKA AEL Limassol (Cyprus-Division A), averaging 9.3 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. He played in the Treviso Summer League (Sanson Team) in 2008 and in 2009 played for Erdemirspor Belediyesi in Turkey.

He has played in 12 NBA Development League games this season with the Los Angeles D-Fenders, averaging 5.8 points and 2.0 rebounds per game.

"Sasha comes in very hungry and willing to play for us," said Thunderbirds head coach John Coffino. "He has great range as a shooter and is a very versatile player. He'll fit into our system well."

Pittsnogle leaves the team with season averages of 11.8 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.

"We are all sad to see Kevin leave our organization, but we understand that his personal life is paramount being the family man that he is," said Coffino.

The Thunderbirds will take the floor next on Friday, Feb. 19, when the team travels to Utah to take on the Flash. The game will begin at 7 pm, and fans can listen live on 610 The Sports Animal.

Albuquerque will return home on Feb. 25 when the team hosts the Idaho Stampede. You can bring your group out to a Thunderbirds game for as low as $4 per person. Call 505.265.3865 or visit www.abqtbirds.com for more information.
