Iowa Wolves News Release
DES MOINES, IA - Curtis Stinson scored 39 points and Marqus Blakely added 31 as the Iowa Energy defeated the Sioux Falls Skyforce 109-103 Friday night.
The two Eastern Conference rivals played a tight first half as the Energy took a 56-52 lead into the break. Stinson (17 points) and Blakely (18) led Iowa's charge.
The league-leading Energy extended their lead to 65-55 on a 3-pointer by Moses Ehambe early in the 3rd quarter. Sioux Falls responded minutes later, as an 8-0 run capped by a Yemi Ogunoye alley-oop dunk put the visitor up 78-75. Iowa would cut the lead down to one point on a Stinson jump shot just before the buzzer, setting up an intense final quarter.
Skyforce guard David Bailey scored four points early in the 4th quarter to give Sioux Falls an 88-83 lead with 9:41 left in the game. With the game slipping away, the Energy went on an 11-1 run to regain control at 94-89 with 6:19 remaining.
In a game that featured numerous runs, Sioux Falls had one burst left as a 7-0 run pushed them into a 99-96 lead. All seven points during that stretch were scored by Skyforce wing Sean Marshall. Energy guard Kenny Taylor scored the next five points of the game, and Marshall answered with a layup of his own to make the score 101-101 with 1:55 left.
Blakely took over late in the game, as he scored on a layup and stole an errant Skyforce pass to give the Energy the lead and possession of the ball. Taylor stuck two free throws to extend the Energy lead to four with just over a minute left.
With time winding down, Stinson stole the ball from Marshall and knocked down a free throw to put the game away for Iowa.
The win moves the Energy to 33-11 on the season, and was the 144th consecutive game the franchise has been in 1st place.
Stefhon Hannah added 14 points and 7 rebounds for Iowa, while Taylor finished with 10 points on the night.
Sioux Falls drops to 10-33 on the season with the loss. David Bailey led the team with 23 points while Marshall finished with 22.
The Energy will host Ft. Wayne Sunday at 4pm in the last regular season game of the season. Playoffs will start in early April. For tickets to all Energy home games, call 564-8550 or visit www.iowanba.com.
