ECHL Series Matchup Sheet

For the First Time in Forever:

Tonight marks the first time the Stingrays and Royals have ever met in the postseason. The Stingrays battled the Royals three times in 2014-15 regular season going 1-2-0-0 with one of the three meetings taking place at the North Charleston Coliseum. The two sides traded wins on December 6 and 7 at Santander Arena in Reading, Pennsylvania as the Stingrays took the opening contest of the season series 4-2 while Reading bounced back 2-0 the following night. The series closed on January 24 at the Coliseum with the Royals squeaking by 2-1.

All-Time Records:

The Stingrays are 16-11-3 all-time against the Royals in the regular season dating back to the 2002-03 campaign. The two sides have met no more than three times total in each of the last three seasons and only four times at the North Charleston Coliseum in the last five seasons (16 total games).

Playoff History

South Carolina Stingrays:

The Stingrays hold a historical presence in the Kelly Cup Playoffs, making the postseason a league-record 21 times, appearing in 165 games (2nd in league history) and stand third in the ECHL records books with 84 wins and first with 81 losses. The Stingrays are tied for first in the ECHL with three Kelly Cup titles (1997, 2001, 2009) and are tied for second with three Kelly Cup Finals appearances. Entering this season's playoffs, the Stingrays look to snap the second-longest postseason losing streak (9 games: 1 game vs. Kalamazoo in 2012, 4 games vs. Gwinnett in 2013, 4 games vs. Wheeling in 2014) with their last playoff win coming on April 20, 2012 against Kalamazoo.

Reading Royals:

The Royals have clinched postseason berths in each of the last six seasons, 10 of their 14 campaigns, captured their lone Kelly Cup Championship in 2013 and tied an ECHL record with five overtime wins during the Cup run. Last season, the Royals fell to the Fort Wayne Komets in the opening round four games to one. Since forming as the Royals in 2001, Reading holds an all-time playoff record of 53-43. Including the Chill, they are 58-58.
