NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - Three third period goals helped the South Carolina Stingrays (6-7-1-0) come from behind to defeat the Colorado Eagles (8-5-1-2) 5-2 in the final game of the teams' 3-game series Sunday afternoon at the North Charleston Coliseum.

South Carolina forwards Alex Gacek and Rob Flick each scored in third period ran their respective goal-scoring streaks to four games apiece, while defenseman Steve Weinstein earned three assists.

The Stingrays opened up the scoring for the third straight game against the Eagles, with forward John Parker scoring his second goal of the season off a great cross-ice feed from Weinstein to make it 1-0 at 5:34 of the first period. Forward Dylan Margonari was credited with the second assist, his first point of the year for South Carolina.

Colorado tied the game up at 1-1 late in the frame on a short-handed breakaway goal by forward Ryan Harrison at 18:01 and the teams were even at the end of the first despite the Stingrays outshooting the Eagles 10-4.

At 11:05 of the second, Colorado took a 2-1 lead on a goal off the rush by forward Matt Garbowsky. However, South Carolina continued to stick with their game and evened the contest in the final minute of the period.

While on a power play, forward Kelly Zajac notched his third goal of the year, beating Colorado netminder Nathan Lieuwen up high to tie things up 2-2. Once again the Stingrays outshot Colorado 10-4 in the middle frame.

South Carolina got the lead back at 3:10 of the third when Gacek set Flick up in front of the net for a quick strike. Flick's fourth of the year was also assisted by Zajac and gave the Stingrays a 3-2 advantage.

Scott Tanski then extended the lead to two goals for the Rays at 6:13, using his speed to turn a 2-on-1 rush into a breakaway before rifling a wrist shot past Lieuwen to make it 4-2. Assists on the goal went to Flick and Weinstein.

Gacek then capped off the scoring with a power play tally at 12:39 of the third. The forward found a loose rebound in front and used his backhand to put it into the back of the net. Once again, Flick and Weinstein combined for assists on the goal.

Both Flick and Gacek each had not scored a goal this season before their current four-game streak began.

Stingrays' netminder Parker Milner earned the victory between the pipes for South Carolina, making 12 saves. On the other side of the ice, Lieuwen stopped 26 shots in the loss for Colorado.

The Rays went 2-for-5 on the power play while holding Colorado to 0-for-4 on the man-advantage. South Carolina finished the game with a shots-on-goal advantage of 31-14.

The Stingrays return to the North Charleston Coliseum ice on Saturday when they battle the Norfolk Admirals at 7:05 p.m.
