Alaska Aces News Release

WICHITA, KANSAS - Garet Hunt banged home a rebound of a shot by Justin Breton for the game-winning goal late in the third period, and the Alaska Aces erased a two-goal deficit on their way to a 6-4 victory over the homestanding Wichita Thunder Sunday afternoon at the Intrust Bank Arena.

The Thunder got the scoring going in the first period as Nick Trecapelli blasted a bullet over the shoulder of Aces goaltender Michael Garteig at the 10:40 mark. Assists to Matt DeBlou and Gerrad Grant.

Alaska's Danny Moynihan had an answer for that at 13:01, accelerating through the Wichita defense, coming in all alone on Thunder netminder Scott Greenham. Moynihan deked him down and backhanded a shot top shelf to tie the game at 1. The goal was Moynihan's third in two games and fifth of the season. Assists to Marc-Andre Levesque and Garteig, his first of the season and first for Alaska goalies this season.

Just ahead of the buzzer, the Thunder tallied again as Alexis Loiseau motored down the right wing, shadowed by Levesque. Using the Ace as a screen, Loiseau rifled a shot that beat Garteig clean up high, and it was 2-1. Helpers credited to James Melindy and Gabriel Gagne.

Wichita took a 3-1 second period lead at 3:39 when Loiseau collected his second goal of the game, 10th of the season from Logan Nelson and Ian Lowe.

Again, Alaska had an answer as Tommy Olczyk knocked home a rebound of a Steve Tarasuk close-range shot. The goal was Olczyk's second in as many days, and second of the season at 10:29. Tarasuk and Tim Coffman got assists. The helper was Coffman's fourth in the last two games and it was 3-2.

The third period was a wild one, with the resilient Aces doing damage on the scoreboard.

Peter Sivak started things with his 8th goal of the season at 9:43 to tie the game at 3. Stephen Perfetto and Dax Lauwers with assists.

Then Tim Wallace gave Alaska its first lead of the game at 15:41 with his 4th goal of the season from Perfetto and Steve Tarasuk.

Wichita struck back...Nathan Moon scored his third goal of the weekend as he banked a centering pass off Garteig's skate and into the net and we were tied at 4 with 3:43 to go.

The game-winning goal was a team effort as Lauwers cleared his own zone with an area pass to Justin Breton on the left wing through the neutral zone and into the Thunder end. Breton's speed made all the difference as he raced in, corralled the puck and fired toward the net. Hunt was driving hard, and got a piece of the disc to rap it in the net past Greenham and the Aces led 5-4 with 3:07 to go.

Sivak added an empty-net tally at 19:32 from Wallace and Perfetto to complete the scoring.

Garteig ran his record to 7-1 with the win and 40 saves. He's on his way to AHL Utica Monday. Greenham stopped 32 shots in the loss.

Alaska returns home to face Utah next Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Sullivan Arena.
