Indy Fuel News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - Kevin Lynch's late unassisted goal with 3:45 remaining in regulation time capped the Fuel's second come-from-behind rally on Sunday afternoon as Indy captured its 5th win a row and climbed out of seventh place in the Western Conference Central Division standings with a thrilling, 6-5 triumph over the Atlanta Gladiators.
In the process, the Fuel completed a sweep of 3-home games in 3-days on the weekend and raised their record above the .500 level at 14(7-6-1) for 15-points. Lynch's 4th goal of the campaign came off a face-off win which he controlled before executing a coast-to-coast left wing flight. Lynch's linemate, left wing Alex Wideman culminated a prolific-scoring weekend when he deadlocked the contest at 5-5 with his second goal and third point of the day a mere :19 after the Gladiators had seized their second lead of the game on Shayne Bakker's first goal of the year.
Making his Fuel debut following his re-assignment to Indy by AHL Rockford, right wing Tyler Barnes earned the game's #1 Star, engineering a club record 5-points on his new team's first 5-goals. Barnes fired the game's FG on his first shift in the first period at the 1:34 mark, lifting Indy into a 1-0 lead, before he acted the role of playmaker extraordinaire, authoring assists on the next 4-Fuel goals.
Falling behind 3-1 and 4-2 in the middle stanza, the Fuel fought back gallantly when Jonathan Carlsson (1) and Matt Rupert (2) connected :50 apart late in the frame to forge a 4-4 tie after 40-minutes. The Rupert strike was stoked on the power play.
Making his fifth start of the season, Goaltender Eric Levine registered his first victory of the season, rejecting 35-shots as Atlanta outshot Indy, 40-28.
The 6-goal output equaled for the third time the Fuel's best offensive performance of the season, accomplishing the feat for the second time in three games this weekend.
In the midst of playing 7 of 8-games at home and 7-games in 10-days overall, the Fuel will conclude the current home stand Wednesday night on Thanksgiving Eve when they host division rival Kalamazoo in a 7:05 face off at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum
While the Fuel are 10(7-2-1) outside their own division, they have yet to claim victory within their own Central Division, compiling a mark of 4(0-4-0) at this juncture of the season.
