Stingrays get first win of series with 3-2 OT win on Monday

The Augusta Lynx lead by their goaltender #30 Bobby Goepfert had a great opportunity to sweep the South Carolina Stingrays on Monday in Charleston, but thanks to a four-minute power play in overtime the 'Rays were able to covert with the man advantage to defeat the Augusta Lynx 3-2 in overtime and fight off elimination for one more day.

The Lynx again were faced with a Stingrays team that came out firing, scoring just three minutes into the game with a goal from Marty Guerin. The Lynx answered back with a shorthanded goal from captain #9 Louis Goulet, who got a great pass from #19 Aaron Slattengren on a 2 on 1. The 'Rays answered right back with a goal from Chris Chaput on a 4 on 4 opportunity. In the 2nd period, the Lynx only had five shots on goal, but got the game tied as 316 Chase Watson picked up a loose puck and fired a shot past Josh Johnson to tie the game. #6 Will Bodine and #12 Ryan Dingle assisted. The Lynx fired 18 shots on goal in the 3rd period, but could not get the equalizer and for the second straight game, overtime would decide the outcome.

In overtime, #20 Matt Auffrey had a chance from the side of the goal that was denied by Johnson. Following the play and to the suprise of the Lynx Auffrey was sent to the box for a double-minor penalty for high-sticking. The 'Rays wasted no time converting on the power play as Stephen Werner drove home the game-winner just :22 seconds into the man-advantage. Game #4 in Tuesday, April 15th in Charleston at 7:05pm
