ECHL Mourns Loss Of South Carolina Owner Zucker

April 14, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL) News Release

PRINCETON, N.J. - The ECHL and its member teams mourn the loss and express their condolences to the family and friends of Jerry Zucker, who was a member of the South Carolina Stingrays ownership group.

Services for the 58 year old were held Sunday in South Carolina. The self-made billionaire, who was a businessman, an inventor and a philanthropist, succumbed to cancer on Saturday.

"On behalf of the entire South Carolina Stingrays organization, we thank all of our partners and friends for their support of the Zucker family," said team governor Herb Greenwald. "The South Carolina Stingrays and the ECHL have always been very special to Jerry and his family since 1995. Your kind words and support have been very comforting to the Zuckers and the South Carolina Stingrays family."

Zucker was founder, chairman and chief executive officer of The InterTech Group, a global conglomerate that ranked as one of the country's largest privately held businesses. He also was CEO of Toronto-based Hudson's Bay Co., Canada's largest department store chain. In 1997 Zucker and his family spearheaded the $15 million conversion of a vacant retail center into the Carolina Ice Palace, which remains the region's only public ice skating venue.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to:

Coastal Community Foundation
90 Mary Street, Charleston, SC 29403

Coastal Carolina Council of the Boy Scouts of America
1025 Sam Rittenberg Boulevard
