
Stingrays Erase Deficit; Earn Point in Shootout Loss to Road Warriors

Greenville, S.C. -The South Carolina Stingrays (13-13-0-3) erased a three-goal deficit in the third period, but fell in the shootout to the Greenville Road Warriors (16-10-1-1) 5-4 at the Bi-Lo Center Friday night. Stingrays forward Tyler Johnson scored two goals and an assist in the loss.
Road Warriors defenseman Steven Delisle opened the scoring at 10:38 of the first period lifting a shot through a screen and over the glove of Stingrays goaltender Jeff Jakaitis (SOL, 29 saves on 33 shots) from the right-wing point. Forward Sean Berkstresser made it a 2-0 Road Warriors lead at 13:54.
Stingrays forward Matthew Pistilli cut the lead in half with his fifth goal of the season at 6:38 of the second period beating Road Warriors netminder Jason Missiaen (W, 29 saves on 33 shots) over the glove with a wrist shot from the left-wing circle. Forward Chris Langkow earned the lone assist. Forward Francis Verreault reclaimed a two-goal lead for Greenville at 9:12. Seconds later, forward Andrew Yogan pushed the score to 4-1 with his sixth tally of the season at 9:37.
Langkow started the comeback for the Stingrays at 4:26 of the final period on the power play with help from Johnson and forward Andrew Cherniwchan. Johnson pulled the game within one at 11:55 knocking a loose puck under the pads of Missiaen. Forwards Justin Courtnall and Andrew Sackrison added assists. The Stingrays tied the contest 31 seconds later with Johnson's second goal of the game at 12:26 from forward Tyler McNeely. In the shootout, forwards Daniel Koger and Hunter Bishop scored, but the Road Warriors slipped three past Jakaitis for the victory. The Stingrays finished the game 1-for-4 on the power play while the Road Warriors went 0-for-5.
