Orlando Solar Bears News Release
Orlando, FL - Elmira jumped out to a three goal lead in the second period and never looked back as they took down the Orlando Solar Bears by a 4-1 score at First Arena on Friday night.
A power play early in the first frame helped the Jackals earn a 1-0 lead. F Louie Caporusso found RW Chaz Johnson open in the high slot, and Johnson blasted a [image: Bryce Lampman] one-timer into the back of the net 6:07 into the opening period. It was the lone goal of the first, with G Hannu Toivonen stopping 19 of the 20 shots he faced in the period.
Midway through the second period, F Andrew Rowe pushed the Jackals lead to 2-0. Rowe recovered a puck at the top of the slot, danced through the right circle and lifted a backhander over the shoulder of Toivonen at 11:10 of the frame. Johnson then struck for his second goal of the night with a one-timer from just below the left circle to stretch the lead to 3-0 with 4:40 remaining in the second stanza. However, a late period Solar Bears power play saw F Ryan Reaves redirect a shot from D Bryce Lampman up underneath the crossbar with 1:17 remaining to pull Orlando back into a 3-1 game.
Less than 10 minutes into the third, the Jackals restored their three goal lead. A shot from F Jordan Pietrus was blocked, but bounced right back to him and he snapped the rebound home to increase the score to 4-1. It was the final goal of the game, as the Jackals collected the 4-1 victory over Orlando.
