Stingrays' Comeback Falls Short against Gladiators

North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays (24-7-1-2) fell to the Gwinnett Gladiators (13-19-0-2) 2-1 on 2x2 Tuesday presented by Bud Light at the North Charleston Coliseum Tuesday night.

Gladiators forward Brendan Walker broke a scoreless tie late in the second period lifting a backhanded shot over the blocker of Stingrays goaltender David LeNeveu (L, 25 saves on 27 shots) at 16:56. In the third period, forward Joey Haddad buried the eventual game-winning tally for the Gladiators at 16:57. Stingrays forward Wayne Simpson pulled the contest within one less than a minute later at 17:35 beating Gladiators netminder Brad Phillips (W, 29 saves on 30 shots) over the right shoulder from the top of the crease. Forwards Peter Boyd and Patrick Gaul earned assists. Both teams finished the contest 0-for-3 on the power play.

The Stingrays travel to Estero, Florida to battle the Florida Everblades on Friday, January 10 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, January 11 at 7:00 p.m. and return to the North Charleston Coliseum to host the Greenville Road Warriors on Tuesday, January 14 at 7:05 p.m. for 2x2 Tuesday presented by Bud Light!
