South Carolina Stingrays News Release

Estero, FL - The South Carolina Stingrays got two third period power play goals, from Brad Farynuk and Scott Romfo respectively, but were unable to catch the Florida Everblades who won 4-3 at Germain Arena.

"We are fighting for our playoff lives right now," said Head Coach Jared Bednar. "You can only say that you are playing well but just not winning so often; we need to put it all together and get wins."

The Rays got out to the early lead in the first period on Maxime Lacroix's 22nd goal of the season on a three on two breakaway. The goal came at 15:55 of the period and was assisted by Ryan Toomey and Keith Johnson. The lead, however, would not last the period, as Kevin Baker would get his 38th goal of the year with less than a minute to play, to tie the game up at one going to the first break.

The second period, a period in which the Rays outscored the Blades 3-0 yesterday, belonged to Florida. They scored twice in the span of less than a minute and a half, to take a 3-1 lead going into the second intermission. The first goal came at 4:07 from Mathieu Roy, his 14th goal of the year, and was followed by Patrick Bordeleau at 5:31, getting his fifth goal of the year to make it a two goal lead.

The Everblades struck once again in the third period to make it a 4-1 game, when Baker got another power play, his second goal of the night, and his league leading 39th goal of the season, at 3:33. The Rays got on the comeback trail when Farynuk buried a rebound past Anton Khudobin to cut the lead to 4-2. The goal, Farynuk's 10th, came while the Rays were on a 5-on-3, and was assisted by Josh Godfrey and Michael Dubuc at 8:11. On the ensuing 5-on-4, the Rays made it a one goal game on Romfo's fifth goal of the year. The goal came at 9:45 and was assisted by Godfrey and Travis Morin, making it a 4-3 score, the eventual final.

The winning goaltender was Khudobin who stopped 30 of the 33 shots he faced. The losing goaltender was Jonathan Boutin who stopped 27 of the 31 shots he faced before leaving the game with 7:09 left to go, due to cramping up. Jeremy Duchesne played the rest of the game stopping both shots he faced, though he did not factor in on the decision. The Rays went 2-6 on the power play while killing off four of the six short handed situations they faced.

The Rays will be back in action Friday night when they return to the comfy confines of the North Charleston Coliseum to take on these very Florida Everblades at 7:05 P.M. You can hear the game live on ESPN Radio 910 the TEAM starting with the Benitos Pre-game show beginning at 6:50.
