Stingrays Blank Gladiators 2-0, Move On to Third Round

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays played their fourth elimination game in the playoffs this year and led by a Davis Parley shutout, the Rays moved on to the third round with a 2-0 win.

"I'm really proud of these guys tonight," said Head Coach Jared Bednar. "I knew that we needed to play our best game tonight, and we certainly did."

The South Carolina Stingrays struck first in this game, the first time they took the lead in the first period this series. Matt Scherer got his first goal of the playoffs from Scott Romfo and Davis Parley. The shot tipped off the stick of Craig Kowalski and into the net.

The score remained 1-0 until the 11:00 minute mark of the second period. Travis Morin got his sixth goal of the playoffs and his fifth goal of the season from Cail MacLean and Sean Collins on the power play.

Davis Parley got his first shut out of the post season, and his fifth of the year. He stopped all 33 shots he faced en route to the win. The losing goaltender was Kowalski who stopped 23 of the 25 shots he faced.

The Rays now move on to the Division Finals and will take on the winner of the Columbia Texas series. The series is knotted up at two games a piece with game five coming on Friday in Texas. Should Texas win, South Carolina will play Texas on Sunday for game one. Should Columbia win, South Carolina will host game one on Sunday.
