Stingrays Acquire Rights to Weinstein to Complete Deal with Cincinnati

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays, proud ECHL affiliate of the Washington Capitals, have completed a trade with the Cincinnati Cyclones, Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Spencer Carbery announced today. The Stingrays have acquired the ECHL rights to defenseman Steve Weinstein to complete a trade that sent forward Colin Mulvey to the Cyclones in February.

Weinstein, 25, enjoyed a strong rookie season with the Cyclones. The 5-foot-10, 175-pound defenseman scored 22 points (three goals, 19 assists) in 52 games with Cincinnati. He also added a goal in two playoff games. Additionally, Weinstein skated in four games with the Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey League (AHL), notching one assist.

The Los Angeles, California native played four seasons of collegiate hockey at Bentley University, skating in 145 games and registering 105 points (14 goals, 91 assists). He served as an alternate captain during his senior season, and was named the Atlantic Hockey Association's (AHA) Best Defenseman during the 2014-15 campaign. He was a two-time member of the All-Atlantic First Team.

The acquisition of Weinstein's ECHL rights completes a February 12 trade between the Cyclones and the Stingrays. Cincinnati received forward Colin Mulvey for future considerations.
