Willmar Stingers News Release
Thunder Bay, Ont. - For one of the few times this season, the Stingers were outdone by an opposing pitching staff.
Thunder Bay's Johnny York had a quality outing as the Border Cats stopped the Stingers winning streak at four games with a 5-2 win over Willmar Wednesday night at Port Arthur Stadium.
Despite trailing early, Willmar made a comeback in the late going with York still in the game. Even without the benefit of any hits, the Stingers managed to scrape across two runs in the sixth inning. Dan Motl and Sean Beesley led off the sixth with walks and Storm Wilson followed by reaching on an error to load the bases. Ky Parrott was then hit by a pitch to drive in a run and Lucas Tancas grounded out to bring in a second run and cut the Thunder Bay lead in half.
But that was all the further the Stingers could get. The Border Cats got another run in the bottom of the seventh inning to make it a 5-2 game, and that held up as the final score.
The Stingers will take on the Border Cats again tomorrow night to try to win the series.
