Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, Wis.- Top dogs of the North Division, the Duluth Huskies (13-8), take on the Bullfrogs (10-9) for an inter-division series starting tonight at 7:05PM. It's "Turn Back the Clock Night" at Joannes Stadium in which the Bullfrogs don alternate throwback uniforms that will be auctioned off after the game.
Nathan Disch (RHP/Jacksonville) will be making his first start since June 5th for the Bullfrogs. He also pitched in a suspended game against St. Cloud on May 29th. He was one of the best pitchers for the Bullfrogs last season, going 5-0 with a 1.45 ERA.
Inserting Disch back into the rotation just makes the Bullfrogs even deeper. With Garrett Harrison (LHP/St. Cloud State), Parker Hamilton (RHP/Florida Gulf Coast), and Luke Crabb (RHP/VCU) all with ERA's below 2.00 in two starts or more, Green Bay sports the best team ERA of 2.19.
In last night's 2-1 loss to the Woodchucks, Luke Crabb spun five innings and allowed just one earned run on four hits. He was followed by bullpen performances from Matt McCarthy (LHP/Penn State), Luke VanLanen (RHP/Valparaiso), and Jeremy Graf (RHP/Flagler) of four combined shutout innings.
New additions to the bullpen and more position players have strengthened the Bullfrogs roster heading into this series with Duluth.
The Bullfrogs now have eight solid arms out of the bullpen, including new signee, Jack Mahan (RHP/Eckerd) who had an 3.00 ERA in six innings pitched for the Thunder Bay Border Cats to start the season. And Jake Stolley (LHP/Northwestern) has also tossed two scoreless innings in each of his two outings, rounding out the late innings options for Bullfrogs pitching coach, Luke Prihoda.
Mikey Duarte (SS/UC-Irvine) comes to the Bullfrogs still in contention for the Brooks Walters award for the best shortstop in NCAA Division 1 baseball. With the Anteaters in 2015, Duarte was an All-Big West 1st Team selection, and hit .345 with 78 hits.
Also arriving for this set against Duluth is Danny Rosenbaum (1B/Louisville). He hit .270 in 32 games started for the Cardinals including a .370 on-base percentage. In the NCAA Tournament, he helped lead Louisville to a 9-3 win over Cal-State Fullerton going 4-for-5 with a run and RBI.
Duluth Steers South
Like the Bullfrogs, the Huskies' success has been a culmination of great starting pitching. But tonight, they will start a more inexperienced hurler against the Bullfrogs.
Ryan Tapani (RHP/St. Olaf) has a 2.57 ERA in seven innings pitched including a relief victory over Eau Claire on June 5th. In his last outing, he started against Mankato on June 12th, but only lasted one inning after totaling three walks.
Like the Bullfrogs yesterday, the Huskies had a four-game win steak snapped in a low scoring 4-2 decision to Eau Claire. The series prior against then first place Rochester, the Huskies swept the Honkers in two games, 4-3, and 7-3.
Duluth is not a power-hitting team with just five home runs. But they are second in the Northwoods League with 183 hits and have struck out for a league low 115 times over 21 games.
Disch will have to watch out for middle-of-the-order threat, Dominic Miroglio (San Francisco). At USF, he hit .340 with 38 RBI, both tops for catchers in the conference. For the Huskies, in ten games, he is 15-for-44, with six doubles, and six RBI. Justin Paulsen (Missouri State) just played in his first game yesterday for the Huskies and went 2-for-5 having hit .274 in 58 games for the Bears.
The Bullfrogs play two against Duluth at Joannes Stadium on Wednesday and Thursday at 7:05PM before a two-game road series at the Lakeshore Chinooks June 19-20.
Single game tickets are on sale now. Visit www.greenbaybullfrogs.com to purchase tickets. The Bullfrogs' business hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
