Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers News Release

WILLMAR, Minn. - The Willmar Stingers bats came alive Thursday night in a 12-5 victory over the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers at Bill Taunton Stadium.

Starting pitcher John McLeod struggled for the Lunkers tonight in the loss, going three innings and giving up five runs.

The Lunkers were able to cut it to a 5-4 game in the 4th inning after a two-run double from Wade Wass was followed up by an RBI groundout from Matt Hillsinger.

But it was all Willmar from there as they put up two in the fifth and five in the eighth inning to pull away with a 12-5 win. Offensively, Jarid Scarafiotti led the way for Willmar, with two hits and three RBIs. The Stingers Blake Shepard drove in two and scored three.

James Farris was a bright spot for the Lunkers despite giving up five runs, as he came in to the game in relief and struck out nine through 4.1 innings.

Dan Russell would get the win in relief for the Stingers with Jack Shannon earning his first save.

The Lunkers and Stingers are back in action Friday night at Bill Taunton Stadium. Jason Forjet gets the start for Brainerd. First pitch is set for 7:05.
