Willmar Stingers News Release
Willmar, Minn. - The Stingers split with Rochester in the two-game series after a 7-2 loss. The Stingers remain on top of the Great Plains Division. They look to bounce back against St. Cloud at home tomorrow.
Bradley Kinsey (Pittsburg State) was the pitcher tonight for the Stingers. Kinsey battled through 5.2 innings allowing eleven hits. In the outing, he gave up two earned runs. Kinsey was able to strikeout seven batters through the 5.2 innings pitched.
The Honkers scored off a single in the second to take an early lead. 1-0 Honkers. Rochester extended the lead to 3-0 in the third off three hits and one error committed by the Stingers. The game was scoreless for the next four complete innings with solid defense and pitching from both sides.
Gus Cunningham (Montevallo) was first in relief for the Stingers. Cunningham pitched 3.1 innings with a clean eighth inning, striking out the side. The Stingers showed some life when Andrew Lucas (Northridge) hit a solo home run in the bottom of the eight bringing the score to 3-1 Honkers. Unfortunately, the long ball haunted the Stingers for the second night in a row. A grand slam in the ninth put the game out of reach for the Stingers. 7-1 Honkers.
The Stingers rallied in their half of the ninth. After the first two batters walked, Brandon Bohning (Northridge) scored Elvers with a base knock. But that was all that was in store for the Stingers as they fell to Rochester 7-2.
