Sarnia Sting News Release

Despite being outshot 39-14 on Friday night, the Sting deserved a better fate against the visiting Oshawa Generals. The Sting fell 3-2 against the Generals, who are ranked 4th in the CHL, in front of 2482 fans at the RBC Centre.

Prior to the game, the Sting unveiled their 50 Goal Club banner and paid tribute to those who've achieved this feat. In attendance representing the club was 2-time 50 goal scorer, Jon Sim. Sim and his family took to the ice for the presentation and received a standing ovation from the Sting faithful.

Through 20 minutes of play, the Sting found themselves up 1-0 despite being outshot 10-3 by their counterparts. A fight between Connor Schlichting and Stephen Desrocher sparked a string of good shifts from Sarnia, and resulted in Sting leading goal-scorer, Nikita Korostelev ripping one over the glove of Kenny Appleby.

Just over 8 minutes into the second frame, Sting rookie, Troy Lajeunesse increased the lead with a nifty play to pick up his 4th of the campaign. White and Spinozzi picked up the helpers on the goal.

Less than 4 minutes later, Cole Cassels picked up his first of the night on a rebound that Dupuis was unable to cover. Hunter Smith picked up the lone assist on the Generals' first of the night.

The Generals came on strong in the 3rd, forcing overage goaltender, Taylor Dupuis to make a number of great saves. With 12:01 to go in the final frame, Spinozzi got called from cross-checking, and the Gens' leading scorer, Cassels, picked up his second of the evening. Cassels was named the game's first star. Just 1:29 later, Stephen Desrocher scored, what turned out to be the game-winning-goal, on a broken play.

Head Coach, Trevor Letowski comments on the team's performance, "It was a pretty good effort, but I mean, in the end the result is not what we wanted." Letowski goes on to explain, "We knew we were going to be in tough, that's a good hockey team over there. They play with lots of pace and tempo and they've got a lot of skill and depth throughout their lineup."

The Sting are back in action tomorrow night against the Sudbury Wolves. The team will take the ice, dawning a specialty Star Wars jersey for 'Star Wars Fights Hunger' night at the RBC Centre. All proceeds from the online jersey auction will benefit the Inn of the Good Shephard.
