(Saginaw, MI) Sam Povorozniouk capped a gutsy comeback, scoring the shootout winner as the Spits escaped the Dow Event Center with a 3-2 win Friday night.

Trailing 2-0 after 40 minutes, the Spits went to work on the power play in the third period.

Cristiano DiGiacinto (6) got Windsor (7-10-1-0) on the board, tipping home an Aaron Luchuk point blast to cut the lead to 2-1 just 51 seconds in. With things looking dire, Jamie Lewis (2) finished off a nifty three-way passing play, beating Jake Paterson (43 saves) with a one-timer from the hash marks to even the game.

After a scoreless overtime, in which the Spitfires registered five shots, Povorozniouk emptied the visitors bench with a goal high to the glove side, after a series of moves.

Saginaw (9-8-1-1) got even-strength goals early in each of the first two periods from Nick Moutrey (3:20, 1st period) and Luke Cairns (2:32, 2nd period) to build its two-goal lead.

Alex Fotinos was outstanding in goal, making huge stop after huge stop, including a pair of breakaways, on the way to a 39-save effort.

The win was Windsor's first on the road in seven tries this season and lifted them out of the Western Conference basement.

Next up is a home date with the West Division leading Soo Greyhounds on Sunday afternoon at the WFCU Centre. Gametime is 2:05.
