Sarnia Sting News Release
The Sarnia Sting hosted the Erie Otters on Saturday night.
Tonight marked the Ontario Hockey League debut of Sting rookie goaltender Ethan Langevin. Selected in the sixth round of this past spring's OHL Priority Selection, Langevin has spent this season excelling with the OJHL's Pickering Panthers. Sting staff knew it was time for Langevin to get a look at the next level.
In the first period, eight minutes in, former Sting forward Troy Lajeunesse opened the scoring. The now-Otters veteran set up shop in the middle of the slot and wired a hard shot past Langevin.
Shortly after, keeping with the trend of the weekend, Sarnia's rookie forwards went to work. Jamieson Rees flew down the left wing side and tossed a cross-crease pass in the direction of linemate Brayden Guy. The latter potted the puck past Erie goaltender Anand Oberoi and tied the game. Through one period, it was 1-1.
In the second, Guy and Rees continued to be the show. Midway through, Rees was knocked down on a tough hit from Erie forward Gera Poddubnyi. Guy stood up for his teammate, dropping the mitts with the Otters veteran.
The game remained relatively quiet for the Sting moving into the third.
In the final frame, Oberoi stood tall in the Otters crease. Erie forward Ivan Lodnia scored the game-winning goal with just over six minutes remaining. Oberoi stymied Sarnia's offense all evening long, stopping thirty-six shots in the Erie win.
Langevin had an excellent OHL debut in goal for the Sting, stopping twenty-four of twenty-six shots faced.
Join us tomorrow when we host the Flint Firebirds for the final time this year! We're one victory away from tying the Sting franchise record for wins in a single season. We'll see you at The Hive!
