Owen Sound Attack News Release
The Owen Sound Attack stayed hot making it 13 wins in their last 14 games on Saturday night with a 4-3 win over the visiting Peterborough Petes.
The Attack once again got off to a quick start when Nick Suzuki slipped behind the Petes defender to get in on Dylan Wells one-on-one making no mistake slipping the puck past the Peterborough goalie for a 1-0 lead just 1:47 into the game. Continuing their hot play in the first frame , the Attack made it 2-0 just 2 minutes later when Nick Suzuki beat out an icing call. Having the patience to wait for reinforcements, he found Kevin Hancock in the slot, who made a nifty little move to fake out Wells sliding it home for his 21st of the season. In the second half of the first Owen Sound and Peterborough exchanged power play opportunities with the Attack carrying most of the play. Unfortunately, for the Attack Dylan Wells was up to the task and held the Attack lead at 2. With just under 2 minutes to go in the first frame, Pavel Gogolev got the Petes on the board when he went it alone with an inside out move that got him past three Attack defenders and in alone on Mack Guzda. Gogolev did not miss cutting the Attack lead to 1.
The first half of the second period showcased a lot of back and forth play and a successful penalty kill for both teams. However, with a little over 7 minutes to play in the period Pavel Gogolev got his second of the night, blasting one past Guzda from the slot to tie the game up at 2. The Attack put themselves back up by a goal when Kevin Hancock scored on a sharp angle shot with a little over 2 minutes to go in the second period. The remainder of the period saw the Attack get out of penalty trouble thanks to the Pete's taking their own penalties seconds later. The period finished with some 3-on-3 play and a 3-2 Attack lead.
The start of the third period saw the Attack and Petes continue their back and forth play with both Wells and Guzda stymieing their opponents. It was Cole Cameron who would restore the Attacks 2 goal lead with a shot from the point at the 6:38 mark of the third period. Unfortunately, for the Attack 4 minutes later Nikita Korostelev went on his own and dangled through the Attack defenders and buried one past Mack Guzda to make the score 4-3. The Attack were able to hold off the Petes in the dying moments of the third period after they had pulled Dylan Wells for the extra attacker.
Tonight's game saw some records set and important accomplishments reach. Getting the win in goal tonight Mack Guzda who pasted Jamie Storr for the most wins by an underage goalie for the Attack with 12. Nick Suzuki used his 4 point performance to move into a tie with Patrick Jarrett for 9th on the most points by an Attack player list. Most importantly with the win tonight the Attack clinched a place the OHL playoffs.
The Attack will finish up their three game weekend with a Core Partners Investment Planning Counsel Sunday afternoon game against the Barrie Colts. Don't forget you can skate with the team following the game. All adults must have a pair of skates, while any child under the age of 16 must be wearing skates and a helmet.
