WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Jonathan Stiever tied a career-high with nine strikeouts and the Dash racked up eight hits on Sunday, leading to a 7-5 victory over the Carolina Mudcats at BB&T Ballpark.

In his eighth start for the Dash (21-22, 59-48), Stiever (5-3) retired the first nine Mudcats (18-26, 57-56) hitters in order. Though he ran into trouble in the fourth, the former fifth-round pick earned the win by allowing three runs on five hits over five innings.

The Dash struck early against Mudcats starter Aaron Ashby (2-6) in the bottom of the second. Carlos Perez led off the frame by drawing a walk before Jameson Fisher and Johan Cruz hit back-to-back singles to load the bases. Then, Tate Blackman hit a broken-bat single into left field, scoring Perez to give the Dash a 1-0 lead.

Continuing the hit parade, Yeyson Yrizarri bounced a single through the left side to bring home Fisher and push the lead to two runs. Steele Walker then hit a sacrifice fly into left field, making it 3-0.

Following Walker's sacrifice fly, Mitch Roman grounded a ball to short, but the throw to second from Trever Morrison sailed into right field, allowing Blackman to score and Yrizarri to reach third. To cap the scoring in the second, Andrew Vaughn hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Yrizarri to make it 5-0.

After Stiever retired the first nine hitters of the ballgame, the Mudcats got the bats going in the top of the fourth. To lead off the frame, Brice Turang tripled into deep center field. The next batter, Mario Feliciano, bounced a single into left field, scoring Turang to make it 5-1. Following a Tristen Lutz strikeout, Payton Henry singled into left field before Eddie Silva grounded into a fielder's choice.

With runners at second and third, Pat McInerney then drew a walk to load the bases. Rob Henry then singled back through the middle, scoring Feliciano and Silva to make it 5-3.

The Mudcats pulled within a run in the top of the seventh. Facing Winston-Salem reliever Jose Nin, Mario Feliciano belted a solo homer to left field, making it a 5-4 ballgame.

But, Winston-Salem added two insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh. To lead off the frame, Walker drew a walk. Following a popout by Roman, Vaughn walked to put runners at first and second. Craig Dedelow then blooped a single down the left-field line to bring home Walker and make it 6-4. After Perez drew a walk to load the bases, Fisher hit a sacrifice fly to center field, pushing the lead to 7-4.

Carolina got another run back in the top of the eighth against Will Kincanon on a solo homer by Payton Henry. However, Jacob Lindgren earned the save by striking out two in a scoreless ninth to end the Mudcats comeback.
