KINSTON, NC - A solid outing from the bullpen helped the Frederick Keys (16-26, 45-66) salvage the series finale 5-4 against the Down East Wood Ducks (27-16, 77-36) on Sunday at Grainger Stadium. Four Keys' relievers held the Wood Ducks to just two runs over seven innings as the Keys squeaked out a one-run victory. Luis Perez (6-1) got the win after he struck out six in 3.2 innings while Sean Miller and Daniel Fajardo paced the offensive with two-run singles.

Wood Ducks starter Noah Bremer was solid through four innings, but the Keys got to him in the fifth. With the bases loaded and two-outs, Fajardo tied the game up 2-2 with a soft single to right field.

Bremer was done after that as Francisco Villegas came on in the sixth. He did not last long however, as he walked Zach Jarrett and Patrick Dorrian before Jairo Beras replaced him. A wild pitch moved runners to second and third for Miller, who singled in both runners to give the Keys a 4-2 lead.

The Wood Ducks got one back in the sixth inning after Perez had held the offense in check. He struck out the first two batters in the inning but then walked and hit a batter to put runners on for Yanio Perez, who singled in a run to bring the Wood Ducks within a run at 4-3.

Scott Burke replaced Perez after that and struck out the final batter of the inning. Perez finished with six punch-outs and allowed just one hit over 3.2 innings.

The Keys and Wood Ducks traded runs in the seventh inning to make it 5-4 headed into the eighth. Beras walked the bases loaded and the Keys scored on a fielding error while Thompson got the run back for the Wood Ducks with an RBI single.

Keiran Lovegrove struck out the side in the eighth and Diogenes Almengo (S, 10) closed it out in the ninth. He stranded the tying run in scoring position.

The Wood Ducks jumped on David Lebron right away. Bubba Thompson hit a double to lead off the first and Lebron followed by walking the next two batters to load the bases. Curtis Terry then knocked in a run on a groundball and Yanio Perez made it 2-0 on a sacrifice fly to right.

Lebron saw the minimum in the second inning but was pulled from the game after that.

Villegas (0-3) took the loss after he was charged with two runs and two walks after recording just one out.

The Keys head back to Frederick for an off-day before they open up a six-game homestand starting Tuesday, August 6. The Keys open up against the Potomac Nationals before welcoming in the Down East Wood Ducks for a weekend series. To find out more about ticket and promotional information, visit frederickkeys.com
