Portland Beavers News Release

PORTLAND, Ore. - Chris Stewart hit a two-run double in the eighth and Will Inman struck out 10 batters in five innings as the Portland Beavers topped the Salt Lake Bees 4-2 at PGE Park on Wednesday night.

Josh Barfield scored the go-ahead run for the Beavers (20-32), capping a night in which he went 2-for-4 with an RBI single in the sixth.

Adam Russell (1-2) got the win for Portland. He gave up a single and struck out one in a scoreless eighth inning. Beavers pitchers tied a season-high with 15 team strikeouts.

Bobby Cassevah (2-2) took the loss for the Bees (26-25), giving up three hits, including the go-ahead double in one inning of work.

Ernesto Frieri pitched a perfect ninth inning and picked up his 10th save of the season.

Nate Sutton gave the Bees an early lead in the first with his solo shot to right field.

Salt Lake scored again in the third when Beavers starter Will Inman walked Cory Aldridge with the bases loaded, bringing home Nick Gorneault from third.

In the bottom of the sixth, after Craig Cooper singled to load the bases for the Beavers, Eric Munson and Barfield followed with back-to-back bloop singles to tie the game. Despite having the bases still loaded with no outs, the Beavers failed to score again in the inning.

With the game still tied in the eighth, Stewart doubled down the third base line and plated Barfield and Anthony Contreras with the go-ahead runs. The rally started after there were two outs in the inning.

In his start for the Beavers, Inman went five innings and gave up two runs on four hits. He recorded a career-high 10 strikeouts and two walks.

Sean O'Sullivan started opposite Inman, tossing seven innings and surrendering two runs (one earned) on six hits. He walked four and struck out three.

The Beavers continue their series against the Bees with a doubleheader at PGE Park Thursday evening. Game one will start at 5:05 p.m. (Pacific) with game two following.

NOTES: Sutton's home run was his first playing for a Triple-A team ... former Beaver Paul McAnulty, who ranks second in career home runs for the team, returned to PGE Park with the Bees for the first time since his 2005-08 stint with Portland ... Brad Chalk's third inning stolen base was the Beaver's first in the last five games.
