New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

The Omaha Royals used a 16-hit attack against Rick VandenHurk and the New Orleans Zephyrs on Wednesday night, cruising to a 10-5 win at Zephyr Field.

Omaha struck for three in the first inning, two in the second and four in the third against VandenHurk (4-3), who allowed nine runs - eight earned - while lasting just 2 1/3 innings.

It was the most runs VandenHurk has allowed in his eight-year professional career; his previous high was eight runs in a major league start against the New York Mets on April 19, 2007.

The Royals jumped out to a quick lead in the first on David Lough's RBI single, and a two-run homer by Kila Ka'aihue.

New Orleans responded in the bottom half, plating a run after a leadoff double by Emilio Bonifacio, who scored on Bryan Petersen's single.

Leading 5-1 in the third, the Royals left no doubt as the first four batters reached base, including a two-run double by former Zephyr Jai Miller.

Lough, Ka'aihue and Irving Falu all had three hits for Omaha, who beat the Zephyrs for the second straight night.

The Royals got three innings apiece from Bryan Bullington, Blaine Hardy (1-0) and Chris Hardy to hold the Zephyrs to one run through the first seven innings.

The series continues on Thursday, with the Zephyrs' Brian Lawrence facing Omaha's Anthony Lerew. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
