Worcester Tornadoes News Release

Nashua, NH -- Righty Lance Stevens tossed 8 brilliant, one-hit innings and combined with Adam Piechowski on the two-hit shutout, as the Nashua Pride blanked the Worcester Tornadoes, 4-0, at Holman Stadium on Saturday night.

The game was scoreless into the bottom of the 2nd inning, when Bryan Duplissie looped a single to center to start things against Worcester righty Matt Weagle (8-5). Mike Torres followed with a perfect double-play ball to second base, but it was mishandled by Omar Pena for an error. Weagle rebounded to retire the next two hitters, but Jerod Edmondson ripped a two-out RBI double off the top of the wall in right-center and Sandy Almonte followed by plating two more runs with a bounding ball single up the middle for a 3-0 Nashua lead. All three runs were unearned. That would be more than enough for Stevens (6-4) who was never in trouble save the 5th inning when an error and two walks loaded the bases for the Tornadoes, but Worcester was unable to score. The Pride scored their only earned run of the night on an RBI double by Mike Torres in the 8th, to provide the final margin.

Stevens (6-4) allowed just a single to right by Alex Trezza in the 7th for the win and Weagle (8-5) pitched his league-high fifth complete game of the season and allowed just 1 earned run but took the loss. Trezza had both Tornadoes hits on the night, adding a double off righthander Adam Piechowski in the 9th. The loss snaps the Tornadoes' season-high-tying four-game winning streak. Worcester will try to get back on track when they return home for their final regular season game against the Pride, and the first game of a nine-game homestand on Sunday afternoon. Righty Shaun McNamara will get the start for Worcester opposite Nashua righthander Isaac Burkett. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05pm.

The Tornadoes return home tomorrow, Sunday, Aug. 3 to begin an eight-game homestand. The third is Tykes Club Sunday and Monday is another Guaranteed Win Night while Tuesday is Mouse Pad Giveaway! Monday-Wednesday will be "Tanks 4 Tickets," with $4 Grandstand and Box tickets and $1 hot dogs!
